Coincidence that I was in Canada this long weekend, had several topical conversations with my distant relatives (from Montreal & Toronto) who are horrified about the news from across their Southern border and have very little desire to travel to the U.S. despite being fond of world travel.

The per capita rate of firearm-related homicide in Canada is roughly one-seventh of that of the U.S. So Canada is much safer than the U.S. in this regard, although you are still more likely to get shot in Canada than places like Japan or the U.K.
