Good advice DJ. One technique I adopted in recent years is to give the person in the interview a final question at the end (i.e. describe a conflict you’ve faced and how you resolved or mitigated it), and ask him or her to respond to it by email. This accomplishes two things:

  • Lets me see their written communication skills, and how they develop and structure a reply that they have more to think about;
  • Makes better use of the obligatory ‘Thank You’ note that many candidates feel compelled to send.
