Great advice, Barry. This one line bothers me:
Each sentence has one goal — Compel the reader to the next sentence.
I think a great sentence is a standalone work of art, one you gladly stop to linger over, to dissect the phrasing, to ponder the content, to admire the word choices.
In writing as in life — gotta stop and smell the 🌹🌹
