I don’t know, Tom, on this I am firmly on the side of liberals & progressives — pre-moden or post-modern, whatever the hell that even means, notwithstanding.
Believing the accuser doesn’t imply denying due process to the accused.
The Kavanaugh hearings taught us that when it comes to taking a position on sexual harassment, a majority of those people that we elect to wield political power on behalf of us still DO NOT believe the victim, no matter how impressive her credentials, no matter how crisp her memories, no matter how much she risks by coming forward.
Believing the accuser of sexual harassment should be a simple matter of statistics, since historically, 2/3 of victims never report, and of those who do and whose incidents are investigated, less than 10% turn out to be false accusations.
The current backlash against political correctness is both unsurprising and disingenuous. The premise of political correctness is this:
that white straight men should no longer be allowed so say or do whatever they want, without repercussion
That’s basically it. And surprise, surprise, some white straight men take issue with this. I, as a white straight man, accept the challenge & additional scrutiny on my words and actions. All my words, and all my actions, all the time. It’s worth the effort. That’s the only way we, you know, progress.
