lovely, Shalini — tickles the mind and the senses.

it almost doesn’t need to be dissected, but I’m a literalist in my reading & writing, so, my guesses:

  1. The steak is a relationship, could be rare and ephemeral, or could be well-done, long-lived and past its prime. The knife is the party itching to end it and get out, yet vacillating over how and when to deliver the parting words.
  2. The steak is a state of confusion, muddied by misinformation and misunderstanding. The knife is clarity and honesty, with the potential to cut through the noise and the fog. But only if delivered with swift precision and without hesitation.

Now … who are the potatoes in this equation? Collateral damage?
